British Food Fortnight with Ofishial Foods

Published: October 1st, 2020

Celebrate British Food.

At the moment we are right in the middle of British Food Fortnight – celebrating British food and drink producers. It started in 2002 in the wake of the Foot and Mouth crisis and it spans over Harvest Festival – another great British tradition.

Here at Ofishial Foods when we are making our frozen ready meals, we strive to buy British where ever possible. You are supporting the economy from the farmer through to the producers and the retailers like Ofishial Foods. British food travels less distance from farm to shop so has a lower carbon footprint than most imported foods.

Eating British fruits and vegetables in season is good for you. Foods in season contain the nutrients, minerals and trace elements that our bodies need at particular times of the year. We buy the majority of our fruit and vegetables for our ready meals from Pershore Produce. They are from the Vale of Evesham, this is an area renown for growing Asparagus.

British meat farmers operate to very high standards ensuring that the welfare of animals is maintained and no growth hormones are fed to them. Like our vegetables, most of the meat we use to make our cooked meals comes from a local source. We use Barry the Butcher from Stratford upon Avon.

British chicken is the safest chicken meat in Europe: 2% of British chickens have salmonella whereas 30% of European chickens have the disease.

At Ofishial Foods we make a wide range of dishes from around the world, but some of our most popular frozen ready delivered to your door are ‘traditional’ British meals.

Pie Meals.

One of the most traditional meals is a pie, this might be one with a mashed potato topping like our Gourmet Cottage Pie. This contains mushroom ketchup made by Geo Watkins. Or our delicious Shepherd’s Pie (which is Allium and Gluten free). Another great mashed potato topped pie is our Vegetarian Pie. This is a meat free version of Cottage Pie, this contains lentils, butternut squash and carrots.

One of our best selling pies is our Classic Fish Pie, this is topped with crushed new potatoes and has a delicious creamy sauce with a hint of mustard. We also do a Luxury Fish Pie, this has some Vermouth (a fortified wine containing botanicals) in it and mashed potato on top.

An alternative type of pie is our Steak and Mushroom Pie, topped with a slice traditional short crust pastry. Or how about a slice of Meat and Potato Pie served with mash potato, cabbage and gravy.

Other Meals.

2 of the meals that were new into our brochure this year are wonderfully British and very popular with many of our more mature customers. Both served with dumplings, there is Oxtail Stew and Mince and Dumplings.

A best-selling meal for our customers, especially those from the Midlands is Faggots and Mash. These are made especially for us by our butchers, to a traditional recipe. Faggots are generally made from minced cut offs and offal (traditionally pork) and seasoned with herbs.

Of course, we have many other meals to choose from.
